TIMMINS, ON: As Timmins celebrates four years of centennials, early prospectors that claimed stake in the future of the City with the Heart of Gold are being recognized for their contributions to the Canadian mining industry and will be inducted to the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

Benny Hollinger, Sandy McIntyre and Jack Wilson will be honoured at the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame’s 22nd annual induction ceremony, to be held Thursday, January 14, 2010, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto.

“The Mining Hall of Fame represents an integral part of Canadian history. Having Hollinger, McIntyre and Wilson inducted celebrates their efforts, perseverance and dedication and the impact their lives had on the prosperity of the City of Timmins and on the history of mining in Canada,” says Mayor Tom Laughren. “The timing couldn’t be anymore perfect. While our community celebrates the major milestones of Timmins’ history, the people who laid the foundation for the success we have enjoyed are being honoured for their individual contributions to the Porcupine Camp and to our nation’s mining history.”

“The induction of the three prospectors to the prestigious Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is very fitting and could not have been better scripted considering the milestones being celebrated in the City of Timmins. Their contributions to the Porcupine Camp continue to affect our lives 100 years later. Their respective legacies are now immortalized for all future generations to read and to enjoy. The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame honours those who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievements to the benefit of the Canadian minerals industry. It is sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, the Mining Association of
Canada, The Northern Miner Newspaper and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. Associate sponsors include the mining associations of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan and the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia.

In December 2008, the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame Gallery opened at the Royal
Ontario Museum in Toronto. The new Gallery showcases the stories of the Hall of
Fame’s inductees through a fully bilingual, interactive video wall that also explains how
mining touches every aspect of our lives. “If it isn’t grown, it must be mined.”

The Hall’s inductees are also featured at two other locations, one in the University of
Toronto’s Mining Building at 170 College Street, Toronto, and the other in the Mining
Museum in the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre in Elliot Lake in northern Ontario.
