Porcupine Winter Carnival

The 27th-annual Porcupine/South Porcupine Winter Carnival is expected to draw thousands of participants out from their winter hibernation.

The carnival runs from Feb. 10 to 12. This year’s theme is a Winter Wonderland.

Our opening ceremonies will take place at Roland Michener Secondary School beginning at 6 p.m. where TD Bank will crown a prince and princess.

Children’s activities, which are free, will begin on Saturday and run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Many other activities are scheduled for kids of all ages including an arm wrestling contest and live music at Jake’s.
The Airport Hotel will also have live music throughout the weekend, and Northern College Porcupine Campus is planning on having a lip syncing competition as well as a euchre tournament.

Search and Rescue is going to come this year to build quinzees, which are ice shelters. There will also be free ice skating.

There will be penny bingo inside, plus there will also be a pretty big penny sale and crafters inside. There are all kinds of merchandise, jewelery and tools. There will also be various raffles to help raise money for local charities.

The Anglican Church has card games, the (Royal Canadian) Legion is serving breakfast and then they have a seniors games for 55-plus.
